Mendocino marks its territory

Torontonians love their fashion, especially when it’s affordable. So it’s no surprise that cheap-chic fashion retailer M for Mendocino continues to grow.

M, the “value-conscious little sister” chain to Toronto-based fashion retailer Mendocino, is gearing up to open a new boutique very soon, located downtown Toronto in First Canadian Place.

It will be the chain’s sixth location in Toronto, with others located in:

– Yorkdale Mall

– Holt Renfrew Centre

– Yonge Eglinton Centre

– Queen Street West

– The Beaches

Just two years since the first M store opened, that’s pretty impressive growth.

No doubt, the chain has benefited from its association with the Mendocino name. Launched in 1987, Mendocino has grown into a chain of nine boutiques well known for carrying the latest trends for fashion-conscious women in Toronto. It carries such high-end labels as Rich & Skinny, True Religion, BCBG MAXAZRIA and Citizens of Humanity.

Little sister M has attracted the attention of similarly fashionable – but slightly thriftier – shoppers in the GTA, ranging in age from about 20 to 45. The boutiques carry a range of stylish casual wear and career wear, often at amazingly low prices.

The new store should fit in well at First Canadian Place, alongside other retailers also catering to females in the city’s financial district, such as Aldo, Nine West, Cassis and Melanie Lyne.

M’s clearly making a name for herself in this segment of the market, and at this rate of growth, I wouldn’t be surprised if she soon had more stores than her big sister.
