If you have a soft-spot for 80s fashions, and you’ve been embracing the comeback of leggings, leg warmers and oversized tops, you’ll likely be spending more time at The Bay this spring.
The Canadian department store chain has signed on to be the exclusive Canadian retailer for Madonna’s Material Girl clothing line, which is set to launch in Canada in the next few months. In the U.S., the line became available in August at Macy’s stores.
The 80s-inspired collection was designed by Madonna with the help of her 13-year-old daughter Lourdes. The collection clearly reflects the pop star’s bright rocker style - think ruffle mini skirts, lace tights, sequin-covered jackets and sexy bustiers.
The best part is, these trendy items won’t set you back by much. The average cost of most pieces in the collection is just $25 to $30.
The Material Girl collection targets teenaged girls, but I have a bit of trouble imagining anyone under the age of 18 wearing many of the pieces in the line – at least based on what I’ve seen so far. Bustiers and skin-tight mini dresses seem a bit revealing for 14- and 15-year-olds.
(Then again, you won’t find me or any of my 20-something friends walking around in bustiers, either – so perhaps that’s a bad example.)
Other pieces in the collection are less revealing and definitely appropriate for teens and 20-somethings alike. I may not be part of this collection’s target teenaged audience, but I have a feeling that won’t stop me from browsing through the new line when it arrives this spring.
